Anne Neville by Amy Licence5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() It’s not too hard because I love it I always have a book in my hand to research from or a notebook to jot ideas in. Finding the time can be difficult though, so I write by stealth, whenever and wherever I can. Writing is my escape and my relaxation I feel most myself when I’m writing, so it’s essential for me to do it. Luckily for me, it’s not a question of having to discipline myself. With young children around, how do you discipline yourself to write? I kept doing it all through university, and while I was a teacher, having articles, poems and stories published, but it wasn’t until 2011 that I finally signed a contract! Words – their meaning and rhythm – are how I make sense of the world. I sent off my first novel at sixteen – it was rejected, of course! Since then I’ve always written, it was just something I had to do, I don’t feel right it I’m not writing: if I’m breathing, I’m writing. ![]() I wrote my first story when I was three and I decided that was what I wanted to do when I was eight years old – that was after I rejected the possibility of being a ballerina, an actor, an architect and an interior designer. I’ve always been a writer, since I could write, since I could formulate a narrative. This week I have had the good fortune to review a wonderful new joint biography of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville by author and historian Amy Licence.Īmy was also kind enough to answer a few questions for me about her love of writing and history. ![]()
